Rome's Best Travel Routes

Curated routes. Authentic stories. The real city behind the postcards.

Payments and Tipping

Whenever possible, use your debit or credit card to make payments in your home currency rather than in Euros. Many credit cards offer competitive exchange rates and lower fees than currency exchange services or dynamic currency conversion offered by merchants. Paying in your own currency enables you to circumvent the frequently unfavorable exchange rates imposed by local vendors or currency conversion services. Be mindful of any foreign transaction fees your card issuer might charge, and check if your card offers benefits such as travel insurance or rewards.

Tipping is appreciated for good service but not obligatory. A tip of €0.50-2 in total is typical, rather than a percentage of the bill. High-end restaurants may expect a bit more, but it’s always at your discretion.
