Rome's Best Travel Routes

Curated routes. Authentic stories. The real city behind the postcards.

Price Expectations & Tipping Norms

Rome can be affordable or expensive depending on where and how you eat. Always check the menu before sitting down.

  • Trattoria prices: Primo €8–12, secondo €12–18, contorno €4–6, house wine €3–5 a glass.
  • Pizzeria prices: Pizza €7–12, beer €4–6.
  • Fine dining: Expect €60–100 per person.
  • Tipping: Not obligatory in Italy, not even expected the way they are in some other countries. If you’d like to leave something for good service, rounding up your bill or leaving a small amount—around €0.50 to €2—is appreciated but not required. For excellent service, 5-10% is very generous.
  • Water: Tap water is safe but rarely offered. Bottled water costs €2–3.

📝 Local Tip: If you want to save on wine, order “vino della casa” in a carafe. It’s cheap and sometimes decent.
